"Let's Pollute" is a modern satire on how pollution is our heritage and keeps our economy growing strong. After a brief history of the pollution imperative from before the Industrial Revolution to the present, “Let’s Pollute” follows a nuclear family polluting its way through an average day. By connecting wasteful consumerism with its corporate allies and dire environmental consequences, the film instructs us all how to be better polluters for a better, more blighted tomorrow. In early 2006 filmmaker Geefwee Boedoe, long troubled by human pollution and the culture of disposability, began working on an animated short in the style of 1950s public service films. After thorough research, he developed a satire about an average family who, in a society that values waste above all else, wants to do its part by polluting as much as humanly possible. For three years Geefwee Boedoe re-wrote, designed and animated on his own, receiving occasional critiques from friends and colleges, such as animator Tim Crawfurd, to "keep him on track". After recording Jim Thornton as the ever jubilant narrator, Geefwee then teamed up with a tiny post-production crew, including editor Torbin Bullock, sound designer Chris Barnett of Skywalker Sound, and co-producer Joel Bloom to finish the project. Everything in "Let's Pollute" was imbued with a 50s style. The design and animation, was drawn "old school" style on paper with a black lithographic pencil, while gritty textures were created with India ink on plastic sheets and integrated into the backgrounds, to enhance the pollution theme. All the music in "Let's Pollute" is vintage, culled from mid-20th century recordings by French composer Roger Roger, with the exception of two short 'jingles' written specifically for the film. |
